A lot of electric bikes have limited range, so the riders pedal most or all the time unassisted, then use the juice to aid when they are tired or slowing up. And pedaling a heavy bike with a dead battery is a real workout. Check out Endless Sphere and see what you're missing. More bikes is better: I have one for everything, racing, commuting, sight seeing, etc.

Re: RTR Day 6: The End of the Road

Electric bikes are great! Ever think maybe the guy wasn't a "cheater" but just riding a bike, not worried about impressing you with his TDF training, but just enjoying transportation? Maybe he has joint problems from a cycling injury or pounding out thousands of miles a year, and that's the only way he can ride now. Or maybe he just likes it! I've endured road snobs while riding my motor assisted bike, and you know what? I have 2 road bikes! Well, 3 if you count the one with the engine. Another human on a bike instead of car. Celebrate!

Re: A bike jersey will have to do

With George Hincapie a drug user I hope the RTR will not be using his jersey's

Re: RTR Day 4: A rocky road for some

Gotta say I liked the dirt on this year's RTR. It was different, at times challenging but did give it a special feel. We didn't have weather (which could have made some of that dirt unrideable (hmmm, spell check does not find this as a word) so it was nice to have something we could say was different to all those who have come before and will come after. The 'Aspen Dirt' was fun because we had a pack of strong cyclists on the path, all together riding it and we starting to call it Rockies Roubaix. The Fremont Pass section of chewed up asphalt was probably for me worse than the dirt, but only because car tires were throwing it up in our faces. The section from Ute Pass was challenging yes, and required attention to prevent a sudden unscheduled dismount, but once you got the hang of it I would have to call it fun. But I am also the kind of person who found 18 days kayaking down the Grand Canyon in winter without a hot shower fun, or who used to go by the mantra, 'If you aren't scared, you're not having fun'.

Re: A truly special finish for Special Olympics cyclists

Please accept my congratulation to a fabulous group of athletes who performed something 99% of the US population could not accomplish. So, chill. Ingrid, I'm glad to know I'm not the only person sick of Rocky Mountain High. I'm a Native Girl, born & raised, and I cringe whenever someone blasts it out. I remember its release and how I felt then, before Colorado became too cool for words. Now that everyone's moved here, I've lost the love -- for the song, not my home. Sounds like Pancake Guy is a prince. Keep on eatin'!

Re: Day 3: 83 miles of dirt, sweat and tears

Thanks so much for your article. I love reading these blogs to get an idea of what this is like for my son on his first RTR. Our friend is camping, and said Sunday night the sprinklers went on and doused half the campsite. Their inner reaction must have been "Wow, this world can be super fantastic".

Taking a week of your time and making the changes you must have needed to facilitate your athletes is one fantastic contribution to a group who certainly need to experience what God created for them and us.
